Color Me Orange County: An Exploration of the Technology, Entertainment, and Tradition of Disneyland and Orange County: July 7–17, 2023

This Destination will take you from the Pacific Ocean to the Pacific Crest Trail, with a little Disney magic sprinkled in between. Girl Scouts will explore the technology behind careers in entertainment while discovering what makes Orange County, California, a truly special place.

About the Trip

Girl Scouts will begin their exploration at the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center (GSLC) in Newport Beach, California. As Orange County’s hub for Girl Scout STEM programs, the GSLC provides Girl Scouts from all backgrounds with opportunities to practice leadership the Girl Scout way, as they explore 21st-century careers and learn how they can make the world a better place. Girl Scouts also have opportunities to create lifelong memories—kayaking from the bay-front property, toasting s’mores on the sprawling patio, and participating in fun beach activities on Balboa Peninsula.

During a three-night stay at Disneyland Resort, Girl Scouts will get an immersive peek behind the curtains at Disney Entertainment, with exclusive hands-on activities, workshops, behind-the-scenes tours, and info sessions led by working industry professionals in three areas: immersive storytelling, technology of Disney parks, and soundtrack sessions. Girl Scouts will learn how Disney Imagineers create immersive environments to tell stories, get a look inside innovative technologies – from audio-animatronics to light and sound effects, and lay down vocal music tracks.

Girl Scouts will reflect on all they learned while relaxing at Camp Joe Scherman, a 700-acre camping and recreation facility owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Orange County, located in the southern San Jacinto Mountains. The property features a pool, two ponds, a ropes course, hiking trails, and Girl Scout traditions. New friendships, forever memories, and inspiring dreams for the future will be the best parts of this Destination!

All events meet curriculum standards for STEAM, Career Pathways, and the entertainment creative process. These workshops also align with National Core Arts and Common Core Standards.
