The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded a grant to Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) to support access to employment, training, education, and career development for young people in historically underserved and marginalized groups, including low-income, girls of color, LGBTQ+, and young people with disabilities. Through GSUSA’s Camp Counselor Career Catalyst Training Program, select Girl Scout councils will deliver on-the-job training opportunities at their sleepaway summer camps beginning in 2023.
Through this program, we aim to use employment at Girl Scout sleepaway summer camps to deliver workforce development, employment, and educational opportunities for youth in underserved and marginalized populations. Girl Scout camp counselors will explore access to career pathways across all sectors and be provided seamless support services through the workforce system. Ultimately, the DOL and GSUSA aim to empower all youth of every background, identity, and ability across the nation to develop confidence and create the change they want to see in the world.
NOTE: GSUSA is receiving a grant totaling $2,499,771 in Total Grant Federal funds for this program. The percentage of total program costs which will be financed with Federal money is 58%; the percentage and dollar amount of the total program costs which will be financed by non-governmental sources is 42% or $1,826,531.
