Stanley Black & Decker and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) have partnered to develop innovative maker programming for grades K–5. Today, making has evolved as a powerful way to give youth hands-on experiences that help them develop skills such as innovative thinking, collaboration and teamwork, intellectual curiosity, creative problem-solving, and perseverance. Making can be woven into any subject at any skill level and can help girls uncover their hidden STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) talents by combining interests such as math and art, science and theater, or engineering and design.
Through this partnership, we aim to inspire Girl Scouts to become makers and innovators that create a more sustainable world. Girl Scouts will explore different types of making as they create projects that inspire and innovate. They’ll learn about the materials, tools, and process to make art and objects for others. Apart from building skills, they’ll also learn about important concepts like safety and sustainability, collaboration, problem-solving, and related careers. When Girl Scouts engage in making, they develop confidence that they can creatively solve problems and bring their ideas to life.
In addition to collaborating on content development, Stanley Black & Decker is providing grants to select Girl Scout councils to help even more girls develop their creativity.
